We’re Building an Orphanage!

What is Los Angeles Rocks! Operation Shanti?

Los Angeles Rocks! Operation Shanti is a fundraising campaign spearheaded by Los Angeles Yoga Teacher Garth Hewitt to raise money to help Operation Shanti build an orphanage in Mysore, India. Operation Shanti is a small non-profit organization that operates an orphanage in Mysore. You’ll have a chance to get to know them below.

Los Angeles Rocks! Operation Shanti events consist of a 2 hour yoga class followed by an after party featuring an auction and raffle with great prizes, music by DJ Michael Callon and a great spread of food!

We have held three very successful events in the South Bay in March 2011, in the Valley in June 2011 and on the Westside in September 2011, and with the help of our supporters like you, we have raised $30,000 that will go toward building Operation Shanti’s new orphanage! We are  $50,000 away from our  $80,000 goal and are continuing to spread the love and awareness all over Los Angeles with our third Yoga Class and Party in Hermosa Beach on March 31st!

It’s time to take our yoga off our mats and give back; unite to spread the word, pay it forward and help ignite the change we want to see in the world. Participate in change and join us on Saturday, March 31st.  You’ll have a great yoga practice experiencing 10 different teachers,  have a chance to win amazing prizes, eat some food, mingle with fellow yogis and have fun –all for a great cause!

Who is Operation Shanti?

Operation Shanti is a non-profit organization in Mysore, India, whose mission it is to help the poorest and neediest children, elderly and the forgotten destitute with basic human needs: food, shelter, medical services and educational assistance. Every human can and should stand on his/her own, and Operation Shanti is there to help the destitute begin to help themselves.

Operation Shanti Envisions…

A world in which the poor are given the opportunity to reach their full potential in life.
We endeavor to spread peace, goodwill, and hope throughout our world by helping the poorest and neediest gain status and their rightful place in their societies. Often, the poor are robbed of their human rights, are discarded, treated inhumanely, and ignored. The ultimate goal of our work is to give the poor back their rights as human beings.

Operation Shanti’s Mission Is…

To directly improve the lives of exploited, at-risk, destitute children and the forgotten, suffering elderly, enabling them to become “beacons of light” and share the same gifts of peace, goodwill and generosity with others for the rest of their lifetimes.
We help the poorest and neediest children and elderly and the forgotten destitute, with the basic human needs: food, shelter, medical services and educational assistance. As we believe that every human can and should stand on his/her own, we are there to help the destitute begin to help themselves.

  1. Will the children be available for adoption to USA residents?
I would be very interested if so. Thank you. Holly Burgess

  2. Hi Holly – thank you for your comment. Unfortunately we don’t have this information for you but you can contact Operation Shanti directly. We are helping them raise money to build a new orphanage to house all the children they are taking in from the streets. But as for adoptions, our involvement doesn’t extend that far. However, please do visit their website http://www.opeationshanti.org and I am sure you can find adoption information or at least a contact person who may be able to point you in the right direction.
We hope you are able to come to the event and help us build a new home for these kids. All the best!
